HOT AND COLD AIR
MATERIALS
- An empty bottle
- a balloon
- a basin with hot water
INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE EXPERIMENT
- First, Inflate the balloon slightly and place it on the neck of the bottle.
- Fill the hot water in the basin.
- Hold the bottle for a minute or two in the hot water.
WHAT HAPPENS?
The balloon will inflates.
WHY?
The heat moves the molecules move apart. This means, that the air inside the bottle spreads. It will enter the balloon and inflates it.
- Second, Hold the bottle for a minute or two in the cold water
WHAT HAPPENS?
The balloon will deflates
WHY?
As the air is affected by the cold, the molecules come closer together. The air will occupy the space in the bottle.
