AIR – THE SPIRAL
Materials
- a pencil
- scissors
- a square of paper ( 15cm square )
- string ( 25cm long)
- candle ( under supervision of an adult )
- stick
INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE EXPERIMENT
- Draw a spiral on the paper and cut along the spiral line.
- Make a hole in the center of the spiral and use the string to fasten with the knot.
- Light the candle.
- You may use the stick to hang the spiral above the candle.
what happens?
The spiral will slowly start to spin around its own.
WHY ?
The source of heat causes the air to warm and rise up. It will be contracted with the spiral and reached between the strips. When the air becomes less dense, it will make the spiral spin.
