Air – Candle & Glass Experiment

MATERIALS

  • a candle
  • a bowl / soup plate
  • a clear jar which is taller than the candle
  • a matches
  • water
  • ink or food color

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE EXPERIMENT

  1. pour a little water into the plate .

2. Add a few drops of ink or food color.

3. Light the candle, then cover it with the clear jar.

WHAT HAPPENS?

The flame goes out and the water from the bowl rises up into the clear jar.

WHY?

The water is pushed up by the pressure of the air outside and rises up to fill the space left by the oxygen
