Fine Motor Activities – Cutting

Help the child to holdhe paper and scissors at right position consistntly with dominant

Though it could be challenging for beginners to use or hold scissors with their tiny thumb and finger, it will turn out to be very interesting and exciting for them to learn to cut tracing lines, straws, playdoughs and with various creative cutting activities. This will increase the interest in the child, especially in art and crafts.

When a child practice to open and close the scissors, we must make sure that the child does not open it using their entire hand. Train the child to close the other three fingers and cut using just their thumb and their point finger.

Help the child to hold the paper and scissors at the right position consistently with dominant hand.

Cut along the lines

For this activity, I’ve prepared a short tracing- lined paper, for practicing cutting using scissors. It helps beginners to focus on the line. It will be easier and less tiring.

Cut the straws

Straws are long and this will help the cutting process to be done without much difficulty.

Creative Cuttings

Practicing creative cutting activities with various materials will be much fun and it will develop the child’s creativity and imagination.
