WATER – FLOATING EGG – THE EFFECT OF BRINE

MATERIALS

  • Clear jar
  • Water
  • An egg
  • Salt
  • Spoon

1. INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE EXPERIMENT

  1. Fill half the jar with water.
  2. place the egg in water carefully.

WHAT HAPPENS?

The egg will sink to the bottom and touch the edge of the jar.

2. INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE EXPERIMENT

  1. Remove the egg from the water. Add 15 tablespoons of salt and mix until it is dissolved.
  2. Place the egg again in the water.

WHAT HAPPENS?

The egg will float.

WHY?

The density in brine (saltwater) becomes higher than egg’s, so the egg floated then.
