WATER – FLOATING EGG – THE EFFECT OF BRINE
MATERIALS
- Clear jar
- Water
- An egg
- Salt
- Spoon
1. INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE EXPERIMENT
- Fill half the jar with water.
- place the egg in water carefully.
WHAT HAPPENS?
The egg will sink to the bottom and touch the edge of the jar.
2. INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE EXPERIMENT
- Remove the egg from the water. Add 15 tablespoons of salt and mix until it is dissolved.
- Place the egg again in the water.
WHAT HAPPENS?
The egg will float.
WHY?
The density in brine (saltwater) becomes higher than egg’s, so the egg floated then.
