
What are Gross Motor Skills?
Gross motor skills involve the movements of large muscles in the torso, arms, and legs. Examples of gross motor skills include balancing, jumping, climbing, riding a bike, running, and throwing. It also includes hand-eye coordination.
Why are they important your child?
The development of gross motor skills involves mastering movements that enable children to perform complex tasks with ease in their daily lives, such as self-care, dressing, and potty training. These skills require physical activity and exercise to build strength in their muscles and bones.
Here are some of gross motor activities ideas that you can do it with your kids at home!
- Walking on the line
- Draw a line on the floor using chalk or stick a tape. Let the child balance and walk on the line.
2. Goes up and down stairs without holding on to any for support .
3. Hops around on one foot without support.
4. Jumps a moving rope.
5. Throw ball with accuracy
6. Kicks a stationary ball straight.
7. Catches a ball in hands, arms flexed.
8. Walks backward.
9. Standing on tiptoes without moving feet for 5 seconds
10. Balances on foot for at least 5 seconds
11. Mimics movements accurately.
12. Jump over an unmoved objects.
13. Carrying jug or tray.
